                                                      Pazhassi Dam


 The Pazhassi Dam also called Kulur Barrage is a stone masonry diversion structure in Kannur district, Kerala, India. It is named after king Pazhassi Raja, a patriot who died a heroic death in the war. The dam is constructed across the west flowing Valapattanam River near VELIYAMBRA, MATTANNUR

                                                         Pazhassi Raja


    Pazhassi Raja (3 January 1753 – 30 November 1805) was born as Kerala Varma and was also known as Cotiote Rajah and Pychy Rajah. He was a warrior Hindu prince and de facto head of the kingdom of Kottayam, otherwise known as Cotiote, in Malabar, India, between 1774 and 1805. His struggles with the East India Company is known as the Cotiote War. He is popularly known as Kerala Simham (Lion of Kerala) on account of his martial exploits.

           Named after the great patriot Sri.Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, the Martyr who stands unique among the rich array         of freedom fighters, and founded by the illustrious leader, social reformer and great educationalist Padmabhooshan Sri.Mannathu Padmanabhan, Pazhassi Raja N.S.S. College had its beginning as a junior College in 1964. 

      This College is the fulfillment of the long cherished aspirations of socially and educationally backward people in the         eastern side of Kannur district. In the initial periods of its establishment this was the only institution to meet the             requirements of higher education of the people in the neighbouring villages.

              Mattannur Town 


    Mattanur, also spelled Mattannur, is a town, municipality, and an aerotropolis in Kannur district, Kerala, India. Mattanur is about 27 km east of Kannur and Thalassery, two major towns of the district. Mattanur lies between Kannur, Thalassery, and Iritty.
